Washing Puffer Jackets

Down and synthetic insulation needs special care to maintain its loft and warmth. Always use a specialised down wash (like Nikwax Down Wash Direct). Never use standard laundry detergent, as it strips the natural oils from down feathers.

Restoring Waterproofing (DWR)

If water stops beading on your rain jacket or waterproof trousers, it's time to reapply the DWR coating. Wash the garment first, then spray it with a reproofer while it's still damp. Tumble dry on a low heat to activate the coating.

Storing Your Gear

Never store down sleeping bags or puffer jackets compressed in a stuff sack for long periods. Hang them up or store them loosely in a large cotton bag to preserve their loft.
